Care Guide

Lab-grown diamonds share identical physical properties with mined diamonds. With the right care, your piece will last generations.

Daily Wear

Fine jewellery is designed for wearing, not storing. That said, a few simple habits will keep your pieces looking their best.

  • ·Put jewellery on last — after applying perfume, hairspray, and lotions
  • ·Remove rings and bracelets before washing hands, swimming, or exercising
  • ·Avoid wearing delicate pieces during heavy physical activity or sports
  • ·Remove jewellery before sleeping to prevent metal fatigue and prong stress

Cleaning at Home

Diamonds attract grease and oils from skin, which dulls their brilliance over time. A simple at-home clean restores their sparkle in minutes.

The right way: Soak your piece in warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap for 20–30 minutes. Gently brush with a soft toothbrush, rinse under warm running water, and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.

Avoid: Ultrasonic cleaners (can loosen pavé settings), bleach, chlorine, toothpaste, or any abrasive cleaners.

Storage

Store each piece separately to prevent scratching. The Karat Store presentation box and jewellery pouch are ideal for long-term storage. For travel, use a dedicated jewellery roll with individual compartments.

Keep jewellery away from direct sunlight, humidity, and extreme temperatures. Gold alloys can react with prolonged exposure to moisture — always ensure pieces are completely dry before storing.

Professional Care

We recommend a professional clean and inspection once a year. This checks for any loose stones, worn prongs, or structural issues before they become problems.

We offer complimentary annual inspections and cleaning at our Mumbai atelier for all Karat Store pieces. Email care@thekaratstore.com to book an appointment.

Specific Materials

  • ·18K Gold (Yellow, Rose, White): Highly durable. White gold has a rhodium plating that may wear over time — we offer free re-plating within the first two years.
  • ·Platinum: The most durable precious metal. Develops a natural patina over time which many collectors prefer. Can be polished to restore original lustre.
  • ·Lab-Grown Diamonds: Physically identical to mined diamonds (MOHS hardness 10). Clean and store as you would any fine diamond — they cannot be distinguished by any test.
